For the month ending March, 2011, Effective Measure and the Malaysian Digital Association reported the following rankings of websites visited by over 17 million Internet users inside of Malaysia:
This month we take a closer look at the demographics of Malaysian Audience in the General Entertainment sites. We measured 58,913 footprints in the last 30 days. Majority of the audience are Male making up 57.55% of the total audience, compared to 42.45% Female audience. Despite having lesser Female audience within the category, the female audience percentage remains 11% higher than an average Malaysian site would have. The largest group of audience, 23.07%, is from the age group of 25-30 years old.
Over half of the total audience is from the age group of 15-30 years old. 52.73% of the audience earns a combined income below USD $1,500 per month, most likely due to the fact that majority of the audience are students and young working adults.
Over 70% of the audience lives in large cities and the capital city. The top entertainment sites and sections (ranked accordingly) in the month of March 2011 are Kosmo.com.my: Entertainment, ohbulan, murai.com.my, Hitz.fm, Utusan: Entertainment, My.com.my, and Era.fm.
Effective Measure (www.effectivemeasure.com) was selected to be the Official Internet Measurement currency for Malaysia by the Malaysian Digital Association (MDA) recently. The MDA is a representative body comprising of Digital Publishers, Advertising Agencies, Creative Agencies and Digital Service Providers.
