SPNB secures support of 25 banks for homes package
May 18, 2011
Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) has formed a partnership with 25 financial institutions to boost the take-up rate of its affordable homes package.

To date, there are 11,400 houses developed by SPNB that are yet to be sold, of which some 3,000 fall under the "My First House Scheme".

The scheme is targeted at individuals earning less than RM3,000 a month and are first-time house buyers. All the available units are priced below RM220,000 each.

"We expect a higher take-up rate now with the support of financial institutions in the country. We will also be able to push for more publicity and marketing efforts, being a one-stop centre that sells affordable homes with loans offered by participating banks," SPNB chairman Idris Harun said.

SPNB on Monday, signed a memorandum of understanding with the 25 banks.

SPNB is a wholly-owned subsidiary under the Finance Ministry.

Idris said SPNB had identified seven other areas in the Klang Valley including Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Rawang, Damansara, Shah Alam, Klang and Puchong to build affordable houses under the "My First Home Scheme".

"We are currently in talks with land owners and we hope a deal would materialise soon," he added.

SPNB has been given the mandate to build 38,000 houses nationwide under the scheme till 2020, of which over 2,800 units have been completed so far.

Through its cooperation with Cagamas Bhd, SPNB is able to offer attractive packages which includes a discount of between 10 per cent and 30 per cent, depending on the location along with free legal fees.

Buyers with an income of RM3,000 and below do need not to make a downpayment.

Up to end of April this year, some RM21.3 million loans with an average value of RM149,365 per loan have been approved under the "My First Home Scheme" package.

It was earlier reported that SPNB aims to sell 6,300 units of houses this year.

Last year, it managed to sell 3,000 units with a total value of RM400 million. – Business Times
