The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) will hold a national inquiry into the violation of the rights of indigenous people in Sabah over their customary rights land from June 17 to July 5.
In a statement Wednesday Suhakam said it would study the root of the problem from the human rights perspective and suggest suitable solutions.
"To date, Suhakam has recorded 1,000 complaints on violation of rights over NCR land with Sabah having the biggest number of complaints at 834 between 2002 and the first quarter of this year, followed by Sarawak with 229 and Peninsular Malaysia, 45," it said.
The inquiry process will begin with a series of consultations with interested parties in Sabah covering almost all districts including Tambunan, Tenom, Nabawan, Pensiangan, Sipitang, Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Tuaran, Ranau, Kota Belud, Papar, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Kudat, Pitas, Paitan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Tawau, Semporna, Kota Marudu, Kinabatangan and Beluran.
Suhakam in the statement also advised individuals who wish to bring up their cases at the consultations to bring along their land titles or land title applications and relevant photographs, maps and letters as proof. - Bernama
