Klang Valley MRT public display shows majority want project
Jun 08, 2011
The Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line project concluded its public display of the railway scheme across seven locations in the Klang Valley on May 14 with a resounding 91 per cent support for the project.

The KVMRT Public Display, led by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), registered over 6,000 comments and suggestions from various channels, including feedback forms, logbooks, emails, helplines and letters during the three-month display beginning on Feb 14.

"Over the past three months, we have received over 6,000 responses with overall, 91 per cent public support towards the implementation of the KVMRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line.

"We are encouraged by the numbers obtained, as public participation and feedback is very important to us," said SPAD chief executive officer Mohd Nur Kamal in a statement, Monday.

He said the seven locations for the public display were Kuala Lumpur City Hall (Menara DBKL), Petaling Jaya City Council (Menara MPPJ), Selayang Municipal Council, Kajang Municipal Council, Bangsar LRT station and the SPAD office in Menara Dayabumi.

Mohd Nur said the public had been very objective towards the project from the beginning.

"Through the various stakeholder engagements that we have organised, we could see that the majority are in support of the KVMRT project.

"When we studied the objections, they were mostly connected to the proposed alignment and environmental issues, which we are seriously looking into."

He said SPAD would present the findings to the government to ensure that the project owners deliver an MRT line that would meet the aspirations of a cost-efficient, convenient and socio-economically beneficial public transportation option.

He also called on the public to give their feedback on the project by calling the toll-free helpline at 1-800-82-6868 or e-mail to feedback@kvmrt.com.my. - Bernama
