Prasarana addresses land acquisition issues in Jalan Sultan
Aug 11, 2011
Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (Prasarana) is addressing land acquisition issues in Jalan Sultan under the MY RAPID TRANSIT (MRT) project.

Prasarana informed property owners in Jalan Sultan on Thursday that part of the underground section, which includes a station of the MRT alignment, will be along the road.

As such, the land above the underground tunnel works will have to be acquired according to current legal considerations.

Group director of project development division, Prasarana, Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff said the land acquisition process is to be managed by the Department of Lands and Mines in accordance with the Land Acquisition Act 1960.

A total of 30 lots comprising 20 buildings and 10 empty pieces of land will be affected for the underground MRT tunelling works in Jalan Sultan.

The buildings are also affected due to technical considerations.

Zulkifli said based on advise from technical experts, any building that is constructed above an underground tunnel in the city of Kuala Lumpur will be vulnerable to risk and safety issues.

At a briefing session with land owners and the press to address land acquisition issues in Jalan Sultan, Zulkifli said the Department of Lands and Mines will initiate the process to inform affected land and property owners via a "Form E" notice.

The session was also to address recent concerns raised by certain parties affected by the land acquisition exercise, following the announcement of the final alignment by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) last month.

The much awaited announcement of the final alignment for the Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line also paved the way for land clearing works to begin and commencement of the MRT line earmarked under the Greater Kuala Lumpur initiative.

"The notice serves to call affected parties to a scheduled hearing during which, the affected land owners can raise all issues relevant towards compensation, including loss of business, renovations and other factors.

"All these will be taken into consideration while compensation is being determined," Zulkifli said.

Affected land owners will be called for a hearing beginning Aug 15 and the process of acquisition is targeted to be completed within four to six months.

"Affected land owners will be given reasonable time to vacate their properties and the authorities will ensure that no undue hardship is caused to them.

"A land owner who is not satisfied with the quantum of compensation awarded by the authorities can file an appeal within six weeks of the award," Zulkifli said.

He also said once an award is confirmed, a notice will be sent to the Prime Minister's Department for the release of the compensation which will have to be paid to the affected land owner within three months.

"Once compensation is paid out, the authorities will then proceed to take formal possession of the land. - Bernama
