Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd, a government-owned company, will continue to manage all issues related to the My Rapid Transit (MRT) project until MRT Co is set up.
Group managing director Shahril Mokhtar said the company will work closely with the government and the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) to ensure all works would continue smoothly.
"Works on the MRT project need to continue... it is only rational that we carry on with all works and programmes that had been decided before we officially hand it over to the new MRT Co," he said in a statement.
MRT Co was set up under the Minister of Finance to directly oversee the multi-billion ringgit Klang Valley My Rapid Transit (MRT) project.
Prasarana's immediate tasks would be to improve the current light rail transit services (LRT) and line expansion projects, as well as expand monorail capacity and existing bus services, and resolve congested routes.
"Public transportation is always about working closely with all our partners and our stakeholders. MRT Co is now a new partner to work with us on the MRT, which eventually will be part of our services and responsibility when it's ready," said Shahril.
Prasarana operates several public transport providers, namely the LRT Ampang and Kelana Jaya lines, KL Monorail system and the RapidKL bus operation in the Klang Valley. - Business Times
