Jan 18, 2012
SEMPORNA, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development has allocated RM302 million to build and repair 9,000 units of houses under its Housing Aid Programme (PBR) throughout the country this year.

Its minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said in line with the government's vision to provide comfortable houses to target groups, especially the hardcore poor, aged, and disabled as well as single mothers with heavy commitments. He said last year alone, 9,000 units of PBR houses were completed and occupied by the hardcore poor.

"This shows the ruling government is really concerned with the welfare of the poor in the country," he told reporters after a working visit to Kampung Terusan Tengah, Pulau Bum-Bum and Kampung Sum Sum, here. Shafie also announced that the cost of building a free house for the poor through PBR had been increased from RM43,000 to RM50,000 each unit this year.

He said the cost of repairing houses had also been raised from RM12,000 to RM13,000 an unit.-BERNAMA
