Sara Timur Plans RM1.2 Billion Township In Kelantan
Jan 20, 2012
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Sara Timur Sdn Bhd, a Sarawak construction and development firm, will launch a brand new township with a gross development value of RM1.2 billion in Kelantan by July.

The company was looking forward to rejuvenating Kota Bharu with the Bandar Baru Tunjong project, Founder and Managing Director John Loi Hieng Yee told a media briefing here Tuesday. He said the project would be undertaken on a joint venture basis with Tunjong Development Corporation Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Mentri Besar Inc of Kelantan.

It would be Kelantan's new business hub developed along the intelligent city concept and comprises commercial units, village and retail malls, a convention hall, a town square, multi-level office blocks, lifestyle apartments and condominiums, among others. Located six km away from Kota Bharu and covering 800 ha, the new township is expected to be completed within five to seven years with the initial development covering 16.4 ha. Sara Timur Chairman Datuk Dr M. Zawawi Ismail said the township would "reflect the culture of Kelantan and change the shopping lifestyle in the state".

He said that with its current revenue of RM350 million annually and over 400 employees, Sara Timur had undoubtedly set a strong foothold in Peninsular Malaysia. Sara Timur would also develop the multi-billion ringgit Mersing Laguna resort covering three reclaimed islands totalling over 800 ha in the South China Sea off the town of Mersing, Johor.

The islands were designed as an oasis dotted by premier residential, commercial-and tourism-related developments encased in an eco-friendly environment, Zawawi said. -BERNAMA
