GTower Sdn Bhd has signed a deal with 3Com Corporation – a leading global provider of secure converged networking (SCN) solutions – to have its power-efficient networking solutions as part of the design of its new development, GTower.

The deal will see the deployment of the 3Com Intelligent Building Solutions (3CiBS), which will serve as a platform for IP-based applications for GTower’s infrastructure. 3CiBS will help reduce power consumption and carbon emissions, while providing optimal power and networking capacity.

On top of having the highest fabric capacity per watt in the industry and being up to 60 per cent more energy-efficient than its competitors, 3Com’s network switches come standard with ‘green’ power adaptors with 90 per cent power conversion efficiency.

Director of GTower Sdn Bhd, Colin Ng, said: “GTower is Goldis’ latest investment initiative and is the first and only Malaysian corporate office to be rated Grade A++, with one plus for achieving an international ‘environment-friendly’ standard from Singapore’s prestigious Building & Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark GOLD certification (provisional), and another plus for Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC)-compliant building and connectivity specifications.”

According to Ng, the developer began its green and intelligent initiative three years ago, while the building concept was still evolving. He said its green investment will see much faster payback in view of the recent electricity price increase.

GTower is an integrated development comprising offices, hotel and club housed in a 30-storey building on Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur. Targeted at business people, it would have 120,000 sq ft of open office space; a 180-room five-star boutique hotel; 112 CEO duplex office suites sized between 2,500 sq ft and 7,200 sq ft; stylish club facilities; food and beverage facilities, and recreational facilities. Its CEO duplex offices are specifically designed with a new work concept for CEOs and other top managers of the 21st century, combining luxury and comfort with technology and security.

According to Ng, GTower has been designed to provide energy and water efficiency, good indoor environment quality and protection. It will also be the first ‘carbon positive’ building in the country, by reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
