Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said recently that the government has no intention to take over abandoned commercial projects undertaken by the private sector in urban areas, such as hotels and shopping complexes.

These projects were developed by individuals or the private sector and involved interested parties such as land owners and property developers, he said in a written reply to Datuk Goh Siow Huat at Dewan Rakyat.

In the case of abandoned government projects, Abdullah said this would be for those whose implementation period was delayed by three months and the contractor was unable to proceed with the projects.

Based on a Treasury Circular No 5 of 2006, the government had requested ministries or agencies to set up an Abandoned Project Revival Committee (JKPPS) to look into such projects.
