Putrajaya Perdana Bhd to go green

With other countries joining the green race towards a sustainable future, Putrajaya Perdana Bhd has put their foot forward with their intention to carve a niche in designing and constructing energy-efficient buildings.

The updated Code of Practice on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for Non-Residential Buildings is expected to be incorporated into the by-laws by this year, however Putrajaya Perdana is doing so voluntarily.

According to subsidiary Putra Perdana Development Sdn Bhd senior general manager Mak Hok Seng there is much more urgency recently to address global warming caused by the emission of greenhouse gases. He also added that half of the electricity used by the developed world is consumed by buildings.

Energy efficient buildings are designed, constructed, operated and maintained in a way that reduces the use of energy. Although it is not yet cost effective to implement energy-efficient buildings features in residential homes, Putrajaya Perdana plans to build such homes in the country’s administrative capital.

Putrajaya Perdana is currently building the Pusat Tenaga Malaysia building, a zero energy office, in Bangi and the Energy Commission headquarters in Putrajaya.
